Yesterday I wrote a quick prototype of my upcoming hex game and tried it out on a friend of mine. Apart from a couple of minor bugs and the fact that I didn’t have any victory conditions programmed, I thought it went really well.
Some observations I made from the playtest:
- The game doesn’t take very long to play. Approx 10-20 minutes per game.
- The rules are simple and shouldn’t take too long to learn - Still must provide tutorial.
- The game has some pretty cool gameplay strategies and counter strategies, which can lead to much variation.
- Its fun.
Which is all very well aligned with the goals I had in mind when creating the game. Its looking like I could very well have a ‘Casual-Core’ game on my hands.
Now I have to do some research into Multiplayer Servers and Artifical Intellegence.
